Sustainable options for Waste in the UK
Overview:
Over the past
decades we have seen the UK improve its
waste regulations time and time again EPA 1990 S.75 (4), (5), (6) &(7) has served the UK well up until this point but
is now time for a holistic review of controlled waste management policy.
Tools such as Landfill Tax[i]
Have been very successful in minimising the waste that goes to Landfill, and
have had knock on effects throughout the
supply chain to minimise waste.

Landfill Tax has worked very well for dense inert
construction wastes, with recycling becoming ever more prevalent. Aggregates tax has also had an impact on construction
waste, raising the relative value of recycled aggregates. The main areas of attention are that of Household,
Commercial and Industrial Wastes. |
These sectors have a putrescible content that makes them harder to deal with; it is on this basis that the proposed changes are focused on these three sectors.
