Old "Paragraph" Exemption Expiries

Under the new Environmental Permitting Regulations, the Environment Agency has allowed industry a transitional period to swap over from the old "paragraph" exemption on the the new EPR exemptions. To find out when your exemption expires please use the table below.

The new exemptions are easier to apply for in comparison to the old system. However, in general they allow for much smaller quantities of waste to be handled, for example a Paragraph 12 exemption for composting allowed for 1000 tonnes or more, but the new T21 composting exemption allows only 60 tonnes, to continue operation in this example an environmental permit would be needed.

If you operation is over the limits set for the new exemption then you may well have to apply for an environmental permit, this is very time consuming so make sure you allow enough time to get a permit before your old arrangement expires.
