This page is designed to guide people who would like to undertake radon monitoring in their home or place of work. It is not a formal guide but will describe and explain the process, and will perhaps save you some money. Most people who ring us are in the middle of a property conveyance, and have been asked to provide details of radon monitoring.
It is important that radon monitoring is carried out over a 3 month period. If you have heard that you live in a radon area then it is worth planning ahead if you are looking to sell you home, and if you are buying in a radon affected area, then perhaps enquire as to whether results from monitoring are available before embarking on conveyance process.
The first step in determining risk at you property is to visit UK Radon (Part of Government) Website and order a report. This report will tell you if you are in radon affected area, and whether you need to undertake monitoring.
If you do need to undertake monitoring then again visit UK Radon website, and order a domestic or workplace pack depending on you requirements. They will send out a pack with the monitoring devices in inside, they come with instructions, and labels and are easy to use.
Yes, for a worthwhile result you should leave the monitoring devices in place of 90 days. The results from 7 day or 30 days test kits might be inaccurate, depending on the weather, or use of vented tumble driers etc.
Undertaking radon monitoring in a house or building that is not in use may affect the results. If this is the case with your building you should contact UK Radon and ask advice as it may affect results.
