What is Special About Southwest Environmental Limited's Certificate?

Additional Ocean Plastic Removal.

"SWEL Carbon Neutral" is a Carbon Neutral Certificate that also guarantees to remove plastic from the marine environment. It uses PAS2050 Carbon Footprint Offset with VCS Carbon Credits, and also an estimated Ocean Plastic Removal Pledge, which is 1g/plastic for every 1kg of CO2e Offset.  Ocean plastic removal is fulfilled via Southwest Environmental Limited Directly or a trusted Charity.

To locate coastal plastic, travel to its location, collect it and dispose of it is a labor intensive activity. A typical cost for 1kg of plastic removed from coastal environment would be £1.50/kg. Compare to cost of 2.5p a kilo for carbon offset (or less), and this demonstrates why we have to offer a very low plastic removal rate when compared proportionally to carbon offset weight.  Plastic is 60 times more expensive, weight of weight.
