As part of sustainability reporting linked to a planning
application for a major health care project, SWEL were asked to undertake a
Renewable Energy Appraisal, to deduce the best root to achieving a 20% reduction
in emissions, in line with local government policies.
After gauging the
building likely power requirements, a calculated methodology was used to
judge the building power requirements.
Once this was established Insolation values
for the project location were combined with various generation
efficiency factors to estimate the total area of solar panels that might
be needed in this instance.
Emissions factors were used to calculate the
savings made from the proposed solar scheme when compared with a mostly
fossil fuel derived power source.
The scheme was accepted by the local council and planning permission has
now been granted for the prosed development.
